The final day fixtures in the Scottish Universities Winter League came around, with three teams all still vying for the top spot.

Taking all the possible scenarios into consideration, Robert Gordon, St Andrews 2 and UHI could all be crowned champions.

However, the game plan for the Highlanders was simple- win their match and take the title. And what a match is was, clash of the titans, against a very strong St Andrews side.

The weather forecast had shown cause for concern in the build-up to the weekend, but players and fans alike were delighted when greeted with sunny and calm conditions.

The course was in great condition for the time of year, and a big thank you should be said to all at Tain Golf Club. Not only this, but they permitted the using of medal tee’s despite the time of year, much appreciated.

The matches got underway, and some great golf was played. However, there had to be a winner, and I am pleased to report that UHI took this match 5-3, and in doing so captured the league title. Will Taylor took the deciding point for the Highlanders and it sparked great celebrations.
